Anything that can be climbed

Hometown

Estes Park, CO

The son of a bodybuilding mountain guide, Love slave to my beautiful wife Becca and Diaper changing wiz to the notorious Fitz Thomas Caldwell.  My life long goal has been the avoidance of a “Real Job” so I travel, climb, write, and dream up one big adventure after the next.  Somehow this adds up to a passable living.

I was born and raised in Estes Park, Colorado and I still live just ten minutes from the house I grew up in. Yosemite is my second home and the place where I found my obsession with big wall free climbing. I spend about three months a year beating my head against Yosemite’s soaring granite walls.  Most of my best climbs have been done there, although I travel an average of eight months a year. Other favorite places include the alpine spires of southern Patagonia, the limestone of Southern France, and the alpine bouldering around my home in Rocky Mountain National Park.

My 36th birthday is soon approaching. This means I have been climbing for nearly 34 years.  I used to wonder if the magic would someday wear off.  But each season I find myself looking for new ways to improve, new places to explore, and new experiences to share with my family.  These days I drag my wife and one year old son around the world with me. I feel blessed to have found an all consuming passion, a wonderful and very tolerant family, and to be supported by the best companies in the outdoor industry.
